Is this about Italy? No, it isn’t. This designer furniture is made in Russia, far beyond the Urals, almost in taiga, on the banks of the Yenisei river!
And did you know that to make good furniture you need to cut down, not an entire forest, in fact, but individual trees rather, hand-picked by an expert? This is how our team first heard about the highly unusual technology employed by the craftsmen at Mekran in Krasnoyarsk.
In order to do this story real justice, we got kitted out for an expedition, and went about carefully examining all of the Company’s workshops. Joining us on our trip was the well-known Russian actor Igor Vernik who opened Mekran’s first showroom in Krasnoyarsk. As he later admitted, never has his taking part in a promotional film demanded that he immerse himself so deeply in the subject. But how could you not?
In the end, we brought back to Moscow, not only an interesting depiction, but also yet another admirer of Russian furniture in the shape of Igor Vernik.
