“There are neither mountains nor big rivers in the Moscow Region…”, but there is the Zagorskaya PPSP. It is not a regular hydroelectric power plant — an HPP — but a hydroelectric pumped storage power plant — a PPSP. It accumulates and stores power. This unique installation has been put into operation in the Sergiev-Posad District. It not only takes power from a stream of water, but also accumulates it. There are only two facilities of this kind in Russia, so our crew were driven not only by their professional commitment, but also by human curiosity.
We had some trouble with the octocopter, which is designed to work within a 1,000-meter range. It lost contact with the base just 150 meters from the crew, but managed to activate the auto-return function. We continued filming. Sometime later, it captured the attention of a welding crew working on a water conduit. When they saw the drone, they stopped working and started taking pictures of the device with their smartphones, so we had a few “encores” to film not only their delight, but also their hard work.
